What is Re:Fresh?
Re:Fresh is a schools based project that provides toiletry and sanitary items to children and youth in need. It was established in 2015 in response to a growing awareness that many students were facing complex circumstances and challenges which meant they were not fully supported in areas of personal hygiene and self care. We discovered that by providing a simple bag of toiletries young people were empowered to take control and care for themselves. We currently partner with several schools in the Wiltshire and Somerset area. In the first year of this project 250 bags were given to students across the local areas.
Toiletry bags are discretely accessed by students normally through pastoral staff working in a school or college.
What's In A Bag?
We provide gender specific wash bags filled with the following items:
Brush or Comb
A specifically designed leaflet on self care and links to other support agencies
Each bag costs approximately £10.00
We have so far given out about 50% of the bags which were very well received by students. The bags enabled us to chat to pupils more freely about their self-care skills and made it easier to talk about addressing issues as they actually got what they needed to make changes rather than us just having a discussion and sending them to sort out themselves.

At the time when the goody bags were handed out the students were so pleased to receive them, they have since commented on how nice some of the products were. I think they were just so chuffed to actually receive something just for them and so much too. Each bag wasn’t cheap with the amount of products inside, so they were definitely a hit and a lovely gift to offer when we are aware for some families that even just the basic toiletries can be hard to come by. Please pass on our thanks because things such as this can make such a big difference for a student .

I come in to contact with quite a few students who would benefit from a bag of toiletries from yourselves. I gave one to a student last week and it has made such a difference to him

How Can I Support Re:Fresh?
Re:Fresh could not function without the help and support of local people. In each of the towns we currently serve there are individuals, businesses, churches, religious groups and charities that have sought to understand the needs of their community and respond in kind by offering their help. We want to thank you!
Our vision is to build a reliable service to our local schools and colleges and this takes support from our wider community. We want to continue to empower those working for our children and youth by helping them respond to the daily needs of the young people they meet. Some of our children and youth may only need short term support others will need ongoing help throughout their school years. Please help us achieve this!

Melissa Charlton is our Re:Fresh project manager and is responsible for the Trowbridge area. The project also has area co-ordinators working for your local community. These are Steve Lloyd in Westbury and Lesley Hooper in Frome. There are a number of additional volunteers that give their time to help facilitate Re:Fresh in each of these locations and we are grateful for the time and support they offer.
